Many people in Hollywood are applauding the Boy Scouts of America’s decision to end its ban on allowing openly gay youths to become members of the organization.
Openly gay actors George Takei (Star Trek) and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family) along with Marlee Matlin and other praised the move, announced Thursday, on Twitter.

More than 1,400 volunteer leaders from across the country voted on the decision, according to The New York Times. More than 60 percent of the voters approved the measure that said no youth could be denied membership based on their sexual orientation, ending years of criticism and internal resistance related to the ban.
But the organization did take some heat from Jason Biggs and others for choosing not to put to a vote whether openly gay adults could serve as leaders.

It’s cool that the @boyscouts will allow gay kids but not gay adults since homosexuality is just a phase that can be cured through prayer.

Boy Scouts will start accepting gay youths, but keep banning gay adult leaders. That’s not at all a confusing message to these kids.

It’s a shame my son will never join the Boy Scouts. Where else is he gonna learn how to sew patches and discriminate against people?
