GRANITE BAY-

Placer County Sheriff’s deputies say a man was arrested trying to break into a Granite Bay home Wednesday afternoon.

A 14-year-old girl happened to be home at the time, investigators say.

Mitchell Leahy is said to have been trying to enter the home on Barton Road through the back door with a crowbar. The girl, home alone, reportedly heard Leahy knock at the front door first. She didn’t answer.

Once deputies were called, investigators say Leahy, 34, was scared off by the sound of sirens and hid in the back yard.

Leahy also apparently gave deputies his brother’s name, but eventually came clean about who he was. In Leahy’s truck nearby, investigators say they found a loaded gun, drugs, a fake passport and stolen personal information.

He was recently released on bail for a recent Sacramento County burglary.

Deputies booked Leahy into jail on a number of charges, including burglary, committing a crime while on bail, having a gun while committing a felony and giving a false name to deputies. He’s being held on $175,000.
