Dorothea Rockburne: Drawing Which Makes Itself at MoMA
Dorothea Rockburne, Locus, 1972
This series of six relief etchings and aquatints is particularly striking and beautiful in its current installation. The white walls highlight the variety of tones and textures on the folded cream paper. This series’ elegance is evocative of minimalist simplicity. As an art historian I try to shy away from adjectives such as beautiful and emotional, yet these seem the most appropriate to describe my thoughts upon first seeing this work. Each page is balanced and harmonious, while all six lined up are truly beautiful. Don’t miss you chance to examine these complex and innovative prints.
