Former Zodiak executives Geno McDermott and Joanne Inglott have formed a new production company focusing on unscripted and sports programming.
Blackfin, based in New York, will focus on producing original character-driven docuseries and sports-related content for cable networks and digital platforms.
McDermott will serve as CEO, while Inglott will be partner and executive producer for current programming. Alexa Conway has also joined the company as partner and executive in charge of production.
“Blackfin is a forum for ideas of all shapes and sizes generated by folks from all walks of life – we want independent creators to make Blackfin their home,” said McDermott. “Our approach is boots on the ground. We are finding talent you can’t find from a cubicle and taking risks in our execution to keep the Blackfin brand fresh for our clients.”
McDermott was most recently creator of Animal Planet’s Cold River Cash for Left/Right. Prior to that, he had an overall deal with Zodiak New York where sold an upcoming NatGeo docuseries. McDermott has produced programming for History, Discovery, NatGeo, Esquire and the Food Network, with senior producing credits on Hook, Line and Dinner and ESPN’s 30 for 30.
Inglott, who was an in-house EP at Zodiak New York, began as a director on ABC’s Wife Swap, before becoming an EP/showrunner on truTV’s All Worked Up and creating Lizard Lick Towing. Other credits include Temptation Island and I’m a Celerity, Get Me Out of Here.
Prior to joining Blackfin, Conway spent five years at CBS Sports Network before moving to Red Line Films in 2008. Her credits include Hook, Line and Dinner, 30 for 30: Little Big Men and Sports Illustrated.
Blackfin is repped by WME.
