Peter Possne is stepping down as CEO and producer at Sweden’s Sonet Film, a production company he co-founded in 1984.
Sonet made a name for itself producing mainstream art house features, which often appealed to audiences as much as critics. Features such as Richard Hobert‘s acclaimed drama Everybody Loves Alice (2003) and Kay Pollak‘s Oscar-nominated As It Is in Heaven (2004) caught the attention of regional powerhouse Svensk Filmindustri, which acquired Sonet in 2007.
Possne stayed on as CEO and produced and co-produced numerous titles under the Sonet label at Svensk, including Patrik Aged 1.5 (2008), Lasse Hallstrom‘s The Hypnotist (2012) and Nobody Owns Me, currently in release, which has grossed more than $2 million locally.
Possne also set up a TV drama division within Sonet to adapt crime serials based on the work of best-selling Scandinavian writers, including Henning Mankell, Hakan Nesser and Anne Holt.
“After almost 30 years as CEO and producer for Sonet Film, I have decided to move on,” Possne said in a statement. “I have run the company more than half of my life — it has been a long, intense, but more than anything else fantastic and joyful journey.”
He added: “Now, I simply want to do something else with my life and be open to new and exciting experiences. I wish my friends at Svensk all the best for the future.”
Svensk CEO Jonas Fors said the company was re-evaluating how to organize the group’s film production activities, particularly after the recent acquisition of Tre Vanner, one of the region’s leading production firms. Its credits include TV crime series The Fjallbacka Murders and the Easy Money film trilogy.
