James Franco might not have the longest career to look back on, but the actor proved a worthwhile choice for Comedy Central‘s latest roast. The Labor Day premiere of the annual special raked in 3.1 million viewers in its original broadcast.
Even better: Comedy Central Roast of James Franco topped all broadcast TV outings on Monday night, excluding Under the Dome, with a 2.2 rating among adults 18-49. And in the cable network’s targeted men 18-34 demo, the roast averaged a 4.3 rating.
Those numbers more easily best the haul of last summer’s roast of Roseanne Barr, topping the comedian’s roast by 18 percent in total viewers and 88 percent in men 18-24.
Across multiple plays, James Franco drew 5.2 million viewers.
A Comedy Central release also touted that the special was the night’s most social event, with #FrancoRoast prompting 334,000 online mentions.
