Lifetime has tapped Danny Cannon to direct drama pilot The Lottery.
The drama from Children of Men writer Timothy J. Sexton is described as a conspiracy thriller set in a dystopian future when women have stopped having children. The Lottery reveals a world staring down the barrel of impending extinction. Remarkably, 100 embryos are successfully fertilized and a national lottery is held to decide the surrogates. As conflict, control and mystery over this important scientific breakthrough unfold, government interests and power begin to dominate one of the most personal and basic elements of humanity — the right to have a family.
STORY: Lifetime Orders Dystopian Thriller ‘The Lottery’ to Pilot
Sexton (Libertador) will write the project and serve as executive producer alongside Dawn Olmstead (Prison Break, Tru Calling). Grady Girl Productions and Warner Horizon TV produce. Cannon will direct and receive an executive producer credit.
In addition to exec producing Nikita, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY and the flagship CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Cannon also directed the pilot for all but the two spinoffs. His credits also include Dark Blue and Alcatraz. He’s repped by CAA, Steve Kenis and Bloom Hergott.
The CW will close out Nikita later this season with a six-episode final run.
