NBC might find an unlikely partner in the proposed Hillary Clinton miniseries that has come under fire from the GOP.
The network is in talks to bring in Fox Television Studios as the production company on the project, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. The New York Times first reported the news.
The talks with FTVS began in July after NBC Entertainment president Bob Greenblatt unveiled plans for a four-hour Hillary Clinton miniseries at TCA. Should a deal be completed, FTVS would also distribute the film internationally.

The project, which does not yet have a script or a title, has drawn fire from Republicans. Earlier this week, Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus called upon NBC to cancel the project, or face a debate boycott during the next election cycle. In letters to Greenblatt and CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker (CNN has announced a Clinton documentary), he painted the projects as free campaign ads for Clinton, whom some speculate might run for president in 2016.
NBC News also has its gripes with the miniseries. On Thursday, NBC News political director Chuck Todd called the miniseries “a nightmare for NBC News,” saying on MSNBC’s Morning Joe it would open the organization up to accusations of partisanship.

“We know there’s this giant firewall [between the news and entertainment division] — we have nothing to do with it. We know that we’d love to be as critical or whatever it is going to be if it comes out, but there’s nothing we can do about it, and we’re going to only own the negative.”
The series is to star Diane Lane as the former secretary of state. Courtney Hunt (Frozen River) is writing and directing the project, which will recount Clinton’s life from 1998 to the present. Busted Shark’s Sherryl Clark will executive produce alongside James D. Stern (Looper).
