LONDON – Tom Hanks will be in the spotlight here later this month at one of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ “A Life In Pictures” interviews.
The two-time Oscar-winning actor, who has never won a British Academy film award despite three nominations in the lead actor category (Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, Castaway), will discuss his craft and career at the special event at BAFTA’s central London headquarters on Oct. 19.
The actor is set to spend time in the British capital as two films he stars in bookend this year’s BFI London Film Festival, which opens on Oct. 9 with Captain Phillips and closes Oct. 20 with Saving Mr. Banks.
The evening with Hanks, who is also a BAFTA Los Angeles Britannia Award honoree, marks the start of the second year of Deutsche Bank’s sponsorship of the BAFTA series of “A Life In Pictures” interviews.
A four-time Golden Globe and five-time Emmy winner, Hanks won back-to-back Oscars in 1994 and 1995 for his turns in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump.
Having started as an actor, Hanks has also written, produced and directed for film and television, winning an Emmy for directing acclaimed miniseries Band of Brothers.
Previous BAFTA “A Life in Pictures” participants include Dustin Hoffman, Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Kenneth Branagh and Helen Mirren.
