Fox has pinned down the last man on Earth.
Following a multiple-network bidding war, Fox has made a pilot production commitment to The Last Man on Earth, a comedy from Will Forte and producing partners Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Last Man, which was created by Forte, is a single-camera half-hour about two strangers who must overcome their differences and work together to ensure the survival of the human race.

Forte will write and executive produce but currently is not attached to star in the project, which is set up through Lord and Miller’s shingle at Twentieth Century Fox TV. Lord Miller president of television, Seth Cohen, will executive produce alongside Lord and Miller. The duo has a history with Forte, who voiced a character on their series Clone High.

The project comes as Forte’s film career heats up. The Saturday Night Live vet stars in Nebraska, which made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival and will be released by Paramount on November 15. Additionally, he stars in Life of Crime opposite Jennifer Aniston, which had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, and in Run and Jump, which premiered earlier this year at Tribeca. Forte recently wrapped production on Peter Bogdanovich’s Squirrels to the Nuts in which he stars opposite Aniston and Owen Wilson.
For Lord and Miller, this marks their second sale signing an exclusive three-year deal with 20th TV this spring to develop, write and direct comedy projects. The pair recently sold the comedy Torched, from writer Chris Romano, to Fox and also directed the acclaimed Fox pilot Brooklyn Nine-Nine. On the film side, they’re currently in production on the animated adventure-comedy feature film The Lego Movie and are directing the 21 Jump Street sequel, aptly titled 22 Jump Street. More recently, the pair sold Miller’s spec script The Reunion to Sony Pictures, which will be directed by Miller and produced under the Lord Miller banner.
Forte is repped by UTA, Mosaic and attorney Ken Richman; Miller and Lord are repped by UTA and Ziffren Brittenham.
