STOCKTON-

A man shot in an exchange of gunfire with Stockton Police officers March 4 died from his injuries Friday.

Officers responded to Church and San Joaquin streets  to find a man, later identified as Carl Lao, firing a gun into the air. Investigators say Lao, 28, fired several shots at officers.

According to police, two Stockton Police officers and one San Joaquin County Sheriff’s deputy returned fire and hit Lao.

Lao was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he died weeks later.
