The newest Pacific Rim trailer sheds its machinery and meddling monsters for at least two minutes, focusing more on the human aspect of the film.
Anchored by an inspirational speech from Idris Elba, in futuristic suit and all, the trailer for the Warner Bros. project previews the process of synchronizing the movements of human soldiers with their massive droids — or initiating the “neural handshake.”

American military imagery is flashed at certain points as impressive displays of destruction are set to a dramatic high-pitched violin and heavy breathing.
Elba’s character exclaims to his army, “Today, at the edge of our hope, at the end of our time, we have chosen not only to believe in ourselves, but in each other. …Today we face the monsters that are at our door.”
Providing the material with a sympathetic relatable premise will come as a welcome relief to audience members who may have worried that Pacific Rim was simply an emotionally hollow Transformers-like machine mash.
Pacific Rim is directed by Guillermo del Toro and stars Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, and Ron Perlman.
The film will be released in theaters in 3D and Imax 3D on July 12.
