STOCKTON –

Mayor Anthony Silva and the Stockton Police Department collected 65 guns Saturday in exchange for cash.

“I personally donated $5,500. So, with that money we’re buying guns back off the streets,” Silva said.

People dropped their guns off with no questions asked in exchange for $100.

“We are giving as much as $150 though for an assault weapon. We have done a lot with the homicide rate. But now, we need to work on the smaller crimes and reduce the shootings,” Silva told FOX40 Saturday.

The guns are processed by the police department and then submitted to be destroyed, according to Captain Doug Anderson.
