All of the Emmy statuettes have been given out, with Breaking Bad and Modern Family winning best drama and comedy series honors. HBO raked in the most awards (27), with stars Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom) and Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire) scoring upset wins in the lead and supporting actor drama categories. The premium network’s Behind the Candelabra also led all shows with its 11 trophies, including a best actor in a movie or miniseries win for star Michael Douglas.
After the telecast, TV’s biggest stars celebrated by attending parties all over town. The Hollywood Reporter was on hand at the Governors Ball, HBO’s star-studded afterparty and AMC‘s shindig for a minute-by-minute recap of how Hollywood celebrated TV’s biggest night.

8:15 p.m. Homeland creator Alex Gansa is standing outside the Governors Ball, where he suggests he was particularly pleased by the series’ win for late writer Henry Bromell. Despite a policy that doesn’t allow acceptance speeches made on behalf of posthumous winners, Bromell’s camp fought the policy and won, enabling Bromell’s widow to take the stage and say a tearful thank-you. Star Claire Danes also thanked Bromell during her acceptance speech.
8:25 p.m. A handful of ICM partners gathered by the entrance to the Governors Ball are thrilled with client Vince Gilligan‘s best drama series win for Breaking Bad. While the series has one more year of eligibility, it was particularly rewarding to win while the show is still on the air. What’s more, this is the year that the show really went mainstream, with record ratings as proof. The mere mention of Bad had garnered big applause inside the Nokia Theater. Gilligan would later appear and be deluged with guests, including Mindy Kaling, looking to congratulate him. “I don’t even know what I said up there. Did I sound okay?” he asks THR at one point. He’s joined by Breaking Bad executive producer Michelle MacLaren, who had just flown in from Croatia where she was directing an episode of Game of Thrones. “It was worth the trip,” she says, clutching her Emmy.
9:10 p.m. ish 15-year-old Modern Family star Rico Rodriguez excitedly scoops up bags of candy from the dispensers spread around the room at the Governor’s Ball.
9:15 p.m. Chuck Lorre chats with his former Warner Bros. Television boss (and current Academy of Television Arts and Sciences president) Bruce Rosenblum at the Governors Ball.
9:20 p.m. Robin Wright and boyfriend Ben Foster canoodle at one of the Netflix tables at the Governors Ball, directly across from Reed Hastings and Ted Sarandos.

9:50 p.m. Modern Family co-creator Steven Levitan and his wife are joined by show writer Abraham Higginbotham as they make their way to the Governors Ball valet line with their respective Emmys all boxed up. Levitan jokes that they should make award carriers (a la Baby Bjorns) for toting the statuettes. After a stop at the 20th Century Fox party, Levitan and Modern Family co-creator Chris Lloyd separately light cigars and celebrate some more at the HBO party. Writer-producer Danny Zuker is among the other Modern Family winners in attendance.
9:56 p.m. True Blood‘s Sam Trammell and The Millers’ Will Arnett catch up near the bar at the HBO bash at the Pacific Design Center, which is rapidly filling up as partygoers make their way from downtown to West Hollywood. Minutes later, Scandal‘s Bellamy Young says she’s optimistic that star Kerry Washington will have another opportunity to make history in the lead drama acting category. “This makes me hope that next year we have more to celebrate,” she tells THR. “If you looked at Kerry the moment when Claire [Danes] won, she’s such a tireless supporter of everyone.”
10:15 p.m. Scandal winner Dan Bucatinsky, who won at the for his guest role in the ABC drama, is making the rounds at HBO with his Emmy in hand. “I was very disappointed,” he says of seeing Washington passed over. “I feel like it’s high time [a black actress won in the category]. I’m thrilled the nomination opened the door and for Scandal to be recognized even more for the upcoming season.” Nearby, Jason Bateman catches up with his Arrested co-star Arnett.

10:22 p.m. Kerry Washington is all smiles at the HBO party as she warmly greets well-wishers. “I was really happy for her,” Washington tells THR of Danes’ second win in a row for Showtime‘s Homeland. “To be nominated with women who I’ve looked up to for decades — My So-Called Life, Forrest Gump, these are projects that changed my life. I am really happy for Claire.” As for the poignant words co-presenter Diahann Carroll said about the Scandal star, Washington says it was an “out-of-body experience.” “She really paved the road for me to have the career I have today,” adds Washington. “It was so surreal.” While Washington would have been the first black actress to win in the lead actress category, she said her nomination was a sign of progress. “Hopefully that will continue.”
10:25 p.m. Holding down the fort for Mad Men and Top of the Lake, Elisabeth Moss receives guests at AMC’s (and Sundance and IFC’s) shindig. AMC chief Charlie Collier is in attendance with themed cuff links — on one arm is a Breaking Bad cuff link, on the other, a Mad Men one.
10:30 p.m. HBO’s party is proving to be the hottest one of the night, drawing stars from competing networks including Julianna Margulies, Aaron Paul, Jane Krakowski and Stephen Colbert, who had snapped a photo with Behind the Candelabra‘s Michael Douglas earlier in the evening. They were joined by HBO talent like Matt Damon, Judd Apatow, Stephen Merchant, Laura Dern and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. At this time, Mick Jagger, who is executive producing a rock ‘n’ roll drama for HBO starring newly minted Emmy winner Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire), is being led to a table at the HBO fete, while The Newsroom creator Aaron Sorkin poses for photos.
10:41 p.m. Michael Douglas is catching up with his Behind the Candelabra director, Steven Soderbergh, at the HBO party. Both won Emmys on Sunday night. While Soderbergh kept his acceptance speech short, Douglas had the theater in hysterics with all his references to his role opposite Damon in the Liberace movie. Among them: “Matt, you deserve half of this. Do you want the bottom or the top?”

10:45 p.m. An unidentified woman — either drunk, concussed, or both — is passed out on a couch at the AMC party. Paramedics are called.
10:58 p.m. Back at HBO, Washington’s Scandal love interest Tony Goldwyn says he was watching the Emmys broadcast from the home of co-star Jeff Perry with the rest of the cast, rooting for their leading lady, when Danes’ name was called. “We thought she was going to win, and that moment with Diahann Carroll was so amazing and beautiful. I had my phone poised to take an Instagram photo to tweet of everyone’s reaction and then she didn’t win,” he says of what would have been a fitting gesture for the social-media-savvy cast. “We were disappointed, but Claire Danes is a great actress and does incredible work. Kerry is such a class act; she was the first one cheering for Claire. We’re living in a golden age of television and there is so much amazing work going on and we’re lucky to be at the party. And next year, we’ll see!”
11:02 p.m. Veep‘s Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tony Hale — both of whom took home Emmy statuettes on Sunday night — are catching up at HBO’s party. Meanwhile, Jagger makes his way through HBO’s party with a posse of security guards, dodging multiple photo requests in an attempt to hit the exit. Minutes later, True Blood stars — and real-life couple — Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin navigate HBO’s jam-packed party hand-in-hand.
11:10 p.m. The Breaking Bad team — led by Bryan Cranston, Anna Gunn and a beaming Vince Gilligan — arrive at the AMC party, where they are greeted like conquering heros.
11:19 p.m. Modern Family nominee Ty Burrell, arriving, and legendary comedy actor-director Mel Brooks, departing, pass each other in the entryway to the HBO party.
11:24 p.m. Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes is all smiles at the HBO party despite the shutout of his show at the Emmys, noting that he’s looking forward to the Los Angeles premiere of his new big screen adaptation of Romeo and Juliet on Tuesday.
11:30 p.m. Outside on the patio at the AMC party, drama series winner Vince Gilligan is swarmed by fans and friends while star and winner Anna Gunn relaxes in a booth outside. Bryan Cranston makes only a brief appearance, but co-stars Aaron Paul, RJ Mitte, Bob Oedenkirk, Betsy Brandt and Dean Norris stay on through the evening. AMC President Charlie Collier is also on hand and having a blast.
TV REVIEW: The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards
11:30 p.m. Of all the Game of Thrones pairings spotted at HBO, the reunited Khaleesi and Khal Drogo (Emilia Clarke and Jason Momoa) draw the most stares. Also at HBO, The Big Bang Theory‘s Simon Helberg says the standing ovation that Bob Newhart received was one of “about 15 times that I cried” during the Emmys. “It was a very emotional ceremony in so many ways. Jim [Parsons] winning was wonderful and seeing how touched he was; Neil Patrick Harris was amazing; the song-and-dance number that the choreographers did was incredible and seeing our characters do flips — I felt like I was watching a very flexible me up there. It was an honor.”
11:47 p.m. “Roseanne was the No. 1 show for what, five years? We pulled 40 million viewers, and it was never even nominated as a show,” The Big Bang Theory‘s Johnny Galecki said of the show’s current 0-for-3 status in the best comedy series Emmys category. “I would love for it to happen one day; I work with 200 people and having worked with them for seven years, I know each of them quite intimately and I’d love to share that celebration with all of them. But if it doesn’t happen, it’s the best job in the world. We love what we do every day — we’ve already won.”
12:00 a.m. Stephen Colbert makes a surprise appearance at the AMC party.
12:00 a.m. A gyrating Sofia Vergara and Eric Stonestreet are at the center of a large group of people on the dance floor at the HBO party, many of whom gathered around to try to snap pics of the Modern Family stars dancing up a storm in celebration of their best comedy series win.
12:05 a.m. Elsewhere at HBO’s star-studded shindig, Newsroom‘s Jeff Daniels is still basking in the excitement of his best drama actor win. He suggests the potential for him to win became slightly more real when Merritt Wever and Bobby Cannavale won. Still in shock, Daniels, accompanied by his ICM agent and an HBO publicist, jokes that his opening line — “well, crap” — was evidence enough that he was ill-prepared for hearing his name.
ANALYSIS: Emmys Dominated by Upsets
12:07 a.m. Supporting actress in a comedy winner, Nurse Jackie‘s Wever, seemed unaware that her short acceptance speech had gone viral for all the right reasons. When asked what went through her head after she reached the podium, Wever said, “Nothing, that was the problem! I really was trying to think of all of the names; it wasn’t going to happen, and it was quiet for a long time so I really did have to leave. It just wasn’t working.” Informed that it played incredibly well on TV and online, a relieved Wever noted she was glad. “It could have bombed. People could have been uncomfortable. Sometimes you see somebody and you get uncomfortable for them — it could have been really bad. I’m really lucky it played.” Asked if she’d do it all over again, Wever this time had her answer at the ready. “If I can get away without giving a speech, I’m going to get away without giving a speech! I wouldn’t do anything differently, and I didn’t do it on purpose though!” As for who she would have thanked, Wever named star Edie Falco, executive producers Liz Brixius, Linda Wallem and Richie Jackson — “the people who have been at the show from the beginning.” To celebrate, Wever is going to head back to New York to begin production on the upcoming season of Nurse Jackie, stashing her first Emmy “out of the way.”
12:13 a.m. HBO programming president Michael Lombardo is nearly all smiles after the premium cable network again scored an Emmy-best 27 wins. “It was a really great night. There were surprises for everybody, including us,” he says, singling out Aaron Sorkin‘s Newsroom and best actor in a drama series Jeff Daniels. “He really is one of the best actors working today. Bobby Cannavale took my breath away. One of the papers said the odds were 50-to-1 against Bobby winning, and that just goes to show that acting is what matters at the end of the day, and he’s a fantastic actor who did an unbelievable turn on Boardwalk Empire.” Of the network’s haul, 11 wins came from Behind the Candelabra, while last year’s Emmy darling, Girls, was shut out. “I was disappointed Girls didn’t get a little love, but I wouldn’t count it out for next year. The season coming up is fantastic. Girls came on the scene very hot and very surprising and fresh. I’m disappointed it wasn’t recognized.”
12:30 a.m. An unlikely quartet emerges at the HBO party when a fawning Kiernan Shipka and an equally impressed Julie Bowen see their conversation interrupted by Jack McBrayer and Eric Stonestreet.
12:35 a.m. Jeff Daniels grabs a fan’s phone and takes a selfie with his Emmy before being ushered into his car outside the HBO party.
