GoDigital has acquired the North American VOD and digital distribution rights to Butch Walker: Out of Focus, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The doc from filmmakers Salome Breziner, Peter Harding and Shane Valdes gives audiences a glimpse of music hitmaker Butch Walker‘s personal, original music. The 43-year-old Walker, named by Rolling Stone as “one of America’s best singer-songwriters,” has worked as a writer and producer for the likes of Pink, Train, Taylor Swift, Avril Lavigne and Fall Out Boy, among others. Walker was formerly known as the lead guitarist for the metal band SouthGang and as the frontman for the rock band Marvelous 3.
In a joint statement, Valdes, Harding and Breziner said: “As filmmakers and fans of Butch Walker, we wanted to introduce the man behind the music to the world while also creating a whole new set of fans. GoDigital’s passion, out-of-the-box approach and multimedia release platform were perfectly in sync with our vision, and we are thrilled to get this story told.”
Butch Walker: Out of Focus debuted at the Nashville Music Festival last year. It will play in a series of theatrical screenings beginning Sept. 5 as part of a combined theatrical and musical tour with Gathr.com in which each screening will be immediately followed by a Butch Walker and the Black Widows concert.
The doc will receive a digital debut Sept. 17.
“This film was built by a synergy of unique characters and personalities; we simply couldn’t do it justice with a by-the-book release,” said GoDigital CEO Logan Mulvey. “Our goal was to create an experience for fans old and new, and I believe we’ve achieved that.”
