HTC has confirmed that there will be no HTC One M9 Google Play Edition but hinted the phone may be given a Windows Phone-themed makeover.
Speaking at the launch of the company’s new HTC Uh Oh handset replacement service, the manufacturer has firmly put the brakes on consumers’ hopes of a vanilla Android flavoured flagship phone.
Despite ruling out plans for a stock Android offering, like the company has done with past ‘One’ branded devices, HTC has teased the possibility of a HTC One M9 Windows Phone edition making its way into the realms of reality.
With a Windows-powered M8 having touched down last year, the introduction of an M9-themed follow-on would cause far less surprise.
Offering a teasing answer to a direct M9, Windows related question, Mackenzie stated: “We’re not making any new phone announcements today but stay tuned.”

Debuted at MWC earlier this month, the HTC One M9 pairs a 5-inch, 1080p Full HD display with Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor. A 20.7-megapixel primary camera also lines up aboard the M9 alongside 3GB of RAM.
HTC Uh Oh is a new scheme from the Taiwanese manufacturer which will allow all M9 owners – based in the U.S. – one completely free phone replacement if they happen to break their device’s screen or see it succumb to water damage.
It is currently unclear when, or indeed if, HTC Uh Oh will be brought to the UK.
