Fans who signed up to join the Marvel Collector Corps earlier this year will have a special surprise waiting for them when they receive their first mystery box in April: an exclusive variant of the first issue of the publisher’s new Guardians Team-Up series with a cover making its debut at The Hollywood Reporter.
“What a better way to kick off the historic launch of Marvel Collector Corps than with the Avengers and by throwing in the Guardians of the Galaxy for good measure,” Marvel SVP Sales & Marketing David Gabriel said in a statement, adding that Marvel was “beyond excited to bring this stunning variant cover exclusively to subscribers, uniting the current roster of Avengers with the biggest movie stars of 2014, the Guardians of the Galaxy for an all-new action-packed adventure!”

The cover is by Nick Bradshaw, an artist whose work has appeared in the Guardians of the Galaxy and Wolverine and the X-Men series, and features the current comic book incarnations of the movie Avengers — Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye and Black Widow — alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy, as featured inside the comic itself by Brian Michael Bendis and Art Adams.
“We are excited to announce the addition of the variant cover to the Avengers box,” Funko CEO Brian Mariotti said that his company, which partners with Marvel on the Collector Corps offering, is “excited to announce the addition of the variant cover to the Avengers box,” adding that its addition “proves our promise to provide exclusive and premium product, to the dedicated Marvel fan through Marvel Collector Corps.”
The exclusive cover variant will be just one of the offerings in the premiere Marvel Collector Corps box, which is dedicated to Avengers: Age of Ultron. Also included in the box will be an exclusive Funko Hulkbuster POP figure, and other exclusive merchandise valued at over $50 (The box itself costs $25, as part of an annual subscription). Following the April release, new boxes will be released on a bi-monthly basis, with the June release centering around Ant-Man ahead of that movie’s release.
