Grace Ebert

On the campus of University Hospital Marqués de Valdecilla in Santander, Spain, a trio of interventions by street artist Pejac (previously) simultaneously responds to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and offers potential paths for healing. The new series, titled Strength, is Pejac's direct response to the 50,000 people who have died from the virus in his home country. Since then, the Spanish artist has prompted hundreds of people around the globe to imitate his playful work as they convert structures, fences, and even powerlines into light-hearted and often humorous sites for their outlined figures. Hundreds of Minuscule Figures Unite in Pejac’s New ‘Welcome’ Mat Intervention in Aberdeen

June 16, 2022

Grace Ebert

The entrance to a building housing some of Aberdeen's most vulnerable residents and charity organizations is the site of the latest work by Pejac (previously). Comprised of minuscule figures congregating as a welcome mat, the streetside intervention confronts the hardships people face when relegated to society's margins. The idea is that they're "tired of being stepped over," the artist says, and that there's hope, dignity, and pride to be found when we're united. Pejac created the heartfelt piece for the 2022 Nuart Aberdeen (previously), which brought…

To exhibit this selection of new work, Pejac found an old péniche boat that will be transformed into an unconventional floating art gallery from June 20-24th, 2018. Moored right next to Notre-Dame cathedral, this vintage vessel will…

Trees Grow from Bricks and a Storefront on the Streets of New York by Pejac

April 3, 2018

Laura Staugaitis

Elusive Spanish artist Pejac (previously) travels the world creating street interventions, often integrating natural elements into man-made structures through a combination of stenciling and trompe l'oeil painting. His most recent projects have brought him to New York City for the first time, where he has created two arboreal artworks in Bushwick and Chinatown. Pejac formed Fossil, in Brooklyn's Bushwick neighborhood, using a brick-sized stencil to spray paint carefully placed shadows on a brick wall. This illusion of bricks sinking back and surging forward  creates a pixelated tree. Chinatown's Inner Strength is fully hand-painted, depicting a cherry blossom branch growing out of a…
