Thanks to his appearance in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, people will get the chance to become very familiar with Oscar Isaac over the next few months, but the actor has revealed that he’ll look very different when he appears as the titular villain in next year’s X-Men: Apocalypse.
Talking to Yahoo! Movies about the look of Apocalypse in the follow-up to last year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, Isaac said that he hasn’t “had a chance to look through the script and see what the exact requirements are, but I think it’ll be a mixture of physical [effects], aided with some robotic technology.”
In Marvel’s comic book mythology, Apocalypse has been typically portrayed as a cyborg with limited shape changing abilities, dressed in an oversized suit of armor, which might explain the “robotic technology” description.
Isaac added that, post-interview, he was “heading to do a head cast” for the role, which he described as “spend[ing] 3-4 hours with them putting plaster all over your head and they get a sense of what your face is like and what shape your head is, so they can start figuring out the costume and the makeup and all that stuff, which is pretty fun.”
Apparently, the definition of “fun” is, like Apocalypse himself, fairly changeable.
X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled for release on May 27, 2016.
