China led the world last year in consumption of instant noodles with a whopping 46.2 billion servings, according to a recent industry report.

The report, issued by the International Ramen Manufacturers Association in 2013, was cited in a market survey of processed food issued by South Korea's food authorities on Friday.

Though only ranking 7th on the list with 3.6 billion servings, South Koreans ate 74.1 servings of instant noodles on average in 2013, putting them at the top spot for highest consumption per capita, said the report.

In comparison, Chinese scarfed down around 34 servings of instant noodles per capita.

China's No.1 spot was followed by Indonesia (14.9 billion), Japan (5.5 billion) and Vietnam (5.2 billion), said the report.

A total 105.6 billion servings were consumed worldwide in 2013, or about 15 servings for every person on earth.

The International Ramen Manufacturers Association was established in Tokyo in 1997.
