Sherman was fired up, but his speech had nothing to do with football.
“How you gonna nominate Selma for best film and then Ava DuVernay not gonna get a director nomination?” the opinionated cornerback (Keegan-Michael Key) wanted to know. “Like, I don’t exactly understand how that works. I’m not a member of the Academy, but it seems like things are a little backwards there.”
As for Lynch’s (Jordan Peele) contributions, his remarks were mostly limited to a three-word phrase describing a certain snack, which refers to the real-life running back’s tendency to demur when speaking to reporters.

Selma was nominated for Oscars for best picture and best original song. However, DuVernay was not nominated for director, and star David Oyelowo was snubbed in the best actor category, leading the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite to start trending.
Key & Peele sketches frequently center on unlikely movie buffs, including a pair of doormen who share a love for an actor they call “Liam Neesons.”
