SACRAMENTO-
Mayor Kevin Johnson took to Twitter on Wednesday morning to announce his group’s plans to meet with the MLS Expansion Committee in New York in hopes of turning Republic FC’s MLS dreams into a reality.
Mayor Johnson and Sacramento Republic FC owners will be meeting with the committee on November 20th. “We’ll highlight the progress we’ve made in terms of our 3 core areas of strength: market, ownership group, and clear path to a downtown facility,” Mayor Johnson wrote on his Twitter account. “Our group remains singularly focused on our efforts to bring a Major League Soccer franchise to Sacramento.”
Republic FC released a statement in response to the mayor’s enthusiasm. “We’re excited about the continued efforts led by Mayor Kevin Johnson and our ownership group to bring Major League Soccer to Sacramento,” read the team’s statement. “All along, we have stood by the notion that Sacramento Republic FC is Built for MLS.”
