Boy Injured in Hit and Run Doing Well

Austin Whidden 2On Saturday afternoon (February 7th) ten year old Austin Whitten was riding his dirtbike on the bike trail. When he reached the crossing at Elkhorn Blvd. He pressed the signal and waited for the light to change. As he started across the street, a black Ford truck ran him and his dirtbike over… and kept going. Didn’t slow down, didn’t stop, never looked back.

Austin was rushed to the UCD Med Center in Sacramento, where he underwent over 4 hours of surgery to repair the horrifying list of injuries…Broken right femur, Broken right ankle, Broken left tibia and fibula, multiple cuts and bruises to his arms and even his chin.

I spoke with Austin’s mother Ashley Whidden, who said that doctors repaired the injuries with metal plates and screws. The x-rays are horrifying.

Ashley said that he’ll have to have surgery again in 9 months to remove the plates and screws. Austin is resting comfortably, sleeping a lot, and even smiling at the pretty visitors.

A “GoFundMe” is in the process of being set up to help the family defray expenses.
