DirecTV, in partnership with A24 Films, is in negotiations with Main Street Films to pick up U.S. rights to the Hailee Steinfeld-starrer Barely Lethal.

The film, which also stars Samuel L. Jackson and Jessica Alba, follows a 16-year-old (Steinfeld) trained assassin who runs away to live a normal high school life, only to discover that fitting in isn’t as easy as she would have hoped.

Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, Jaime King, Thomas Mann, Rob Huebel and Dove Cameron round out the cast.

The action-comedy will be released on DirecTV in April, according to sources, and will also hit select theatres.

Fanboys helmer Kyle Newman directed the project with a script by John D’Arco. (Fun fact: Newman just directed Taylor Swift‘s latest video, Style.)

Brett Ratner and John Cheng are producing via their RatPac Entertainment, along with Hopscotch Pictures’ Sukee Chew and RKO Pictures’ Ted Hartley and Vanessa Coifman. Main Street Films, which holds the U.S. rights, is also a producer on the movie.

ICM Partners and WME Global negotiated the deal.

A24 and DirecTV most recently acquired Slow West, starring Kodi Smit-McPhee and Michael Fassbender, ahead of its Sundance premiere, where the film won the grand jury prize in the World Cinema dramatic competition. Other previous acquisitions made through the partnership have included Denis Villeneuve‘s Enemy, starring Jake Gyllenhaal; Jeff Baena‘s directorial debut Life After Beth, starring Aubrey Plaza; and The Captive, directed by Atom Egoyan.
