SACRAMENTO-
Former FOX40 anchor Sabrina Rodriguez pleaded no contest to one count of theft Friday morning in a Sacramento courtroom.
The charge stems from a 2013 report of stolen merchandise from a Coach store in Folsom. Prosecutors alleged Rodriguez helped her then-fiance Nicholas Grey steal 10 wallets. The couple was seen on surveillance video inside the store.
Rodriguez resigned her position at FOX40 after charges were filed last summer.
As part of the plea deal, Rodriguez owes $2,484 in restitution to the Coach store and she will wear an ankle monitoring device for 30 days.
In accepting the plea, she could go to jail for 60 days but the judge allowed for alternative sentencing including the monitoring device and community service.
“I’ve learned a lot through this whole process. I’ve learned a lot about me and relationships, and why I stayed in a bad relationship as long as I did, and how I got here,” Rodriguez said during an interview after her plea deal was accepted.
She would like to speak to women, who find themselves in bad relationships, as part of her community service.
“I know I’m not the only woman who stayed in a bad relationship too long, and I’m not going to be the last person, either,” Rodriguez said.
Gray is also charged in connection with the theft and remains in custody. Gray faces additional charges of drug possession and manufacture in connection with an explosion and fire at the couple’s South Sacramento home a year ago.
Gray was in court a few moments after Rodriguez on Friday, for a hearing in his case.
