SACRAMENTO-

For 50 years, Evergene Heard has called Sacramento’s Elder Creek area her home.

“Seen it change from you know, good to kind of bad, to now, where we are getting it back on track, so it’s a pretty good neighborhood. ”

Until Friday night around 10:30 p.m. when Sacramento Police said a group of men assaulted a man, then stole his car on the 6400 block of Sun River Drive.

“It makes me feel unsafe,” said Heard.

Sacramento Police canvassed the area for the suspect vehicle, but so far, that searched turned up nothing.

FOX40 uncovered that the victim is a pizza delivery driver for Pizza Guys on Stockton Boulevard. A representative from the restaurant said four men were sitting on the porch of the vacant home, pretending to be residents, when the driver approached them with the pizza. That’s when the men bumrushed the unsuspecting delivery man.

According to Heard, there have been some problems with homeless and people staying at vacant homes in her area in the last few years.

“When code enforcement came out, they just moved them out. And then they would come back, but eventually stopped coming,” said Heard.

With most of the vacant homes now sold, Heard hopes these crimes don’t occur anymore.

“I hope it doesn’t happen anymore, but I want it to be more safe and have more police protection out here at night time, maybe. ”

Sacramento Police are further investigating this incident.
