Warren Buffett Says Eating Like A 6-Year-Old Helps Him Stay Young

by Sean Levinson

Warren Buffett is 84 years old but remains a tremendously active investor and has shown no signs of slowing down.

Fortune's Patricia Sellers learned the secret to Buffett's youthfulness in a phone conversation just two days ago, and it's rather unorthodox, to say the least.

The two were discussing the death of former Coca-Cola president Don Keough, when the Berkshire Hathaway CEO made a very confusing remark.

Buffett revealed,

I'm one quarter Coca-Cola.

But he wasn't speaking in financial or figurative terms.

Warren Buffett drinks Coke like it's his religion, even though one 12-ounce can packs 140 calories.

He said,

If I eat 2,700 calories a day, a quarter of that is Coca-Cola. I drink at least five 12-ounce servings. I do it every day. I have three Cokes during the day and two at night.

Buffett even drinks it for breakfast, and adds some variety when he's not at his Omaha, NE, office by indulging in Cherry Coke at home.

His favorite snack to have with Coke is Utz's potato sticks. He loves them so much, he's actually discussed buying the Pennsylvania-based company.

But Buffett wasn't in the mood for potatoes the day of his conversation with Sellers, so he stuck to something a little more nutritious.

He said,

This morning, I had a bowl of chocolate chip ice cream.

And only Warren Buffett could provide a rationale to make such a diet seem sensible.

He explained,

I checked the actuarial tables, and the lowest death rate is among 6-year-olds. So I decided to eat like a 6-year-old. It's the safest course I can take.

Buffett's drink of choice makes sense when you consider he owns $16 billion in Coca-Cola stock.

The beverage also reportedly helps you dial phone numbers faster, stay relaxed and bond with eccentric Wall Street bosses.

Oh wait, that's a different kind of "coke."
