Inspired by LGBT activist Savage’s life, the single-camera comedy revolves around a picture-perfect family turned upside down when Kenny, the youngest son (Noah Galvin), comes out of the closet. What seems like the end of their idyllic life turns out to be the beginning of a bright new chapter when everyone stops pretending to be perfect and actually starts being real.
Plimpton will star as Eileen O’Neal, Kenny’s mother. The character is described as the perfect mother who, in reality, has a marriage on the rocks and is liberated when she comes clean about her efforts to be perfect.
She joins a cast that includes Jay R. Ferguson, who will play Eileen’s husband, Pat, as well as regulars Bebe Wood, Matthew Shively and Mary Hollis Inboden.

For Plimpton, the role marks her follow-up to Fox’s Raising Hope, which ended its four-season run in April. Her credits include her Emmy-winning guest turn on The Good Wife, as well as roles on How to Make It in America, Grey’s Anatomy and Law & Order: SVU, the latter of which also earned her an Emmy nom. She most recently spent time on Broadway in A Delicate Balance. She’s repped by Innovative Artists and Markham Froggatt.
From ABC Studios, Trophy Wife‘s David Windsor and Casey Johnson will both pen the script for the single-camera comedy and executive produce. Savage, Brian Pines and Dan McDermott will also exec produce, while Todd Holland will direct.
