WOODLAND-

Woodland neighbors of California Highway Patrol Officer Armando Ortega are disappointed to hear the law man who lives next door is accused of abusing his wife.

“Yeah, it’s pretty alarming,” neighbor Christie, who only wanted to give her first name, told FOX40.

According to Woodland Police, Ortega was arrested last week on charges of corporal injury to a spouse.

Officers initially responded to his home on Farnham Avenue, after receiving reports of a dispute inside.

FOX40 knocked on the family’s door at their house in woodland to give Ortega a chance to speak, but no one answered.

Neighbors tell us typically the family is very quiet, but the charges against Ortega are not shocking.

“I’m sure he’s not the only CHP officer that has domestic violence issues,” Christie said.

Ortega works out of the CHP valley division offices in Sacramento.

That department issued a statement to FOX40 saying in part:

“Even as the alleged incident occurred while the employee was off duty, the CHP takes any allegation of misconduct by its employees seriously. The CHP is fully cooperating with the investigating agency and is conducting its own administrative investigation into the allegations. If the allegations in this case are proven true, the department will impose discipline up to and including dismissal of the employee.”

“I don’t know (if he should lose his job),” Christie told FOX40.

But Ortega’s neighbor does believe there should be a bigger spotlight on all domestic violence cases, and not just his.

“I mean it happens every day, it’s just unfortunate that just because he’s a CHP officer that it’s getting publicized,” Christie said.

And this isn’t the first time ortega has been in the news.

According to the Woodland Daily Democrat, Ortega got into a collision with another motorist in March along Interstate 505 and Highway 16 but there were no major injuries.
