SQUAW VALLEY-

Due to limited snow coverage, Squaw  Valley chose to cancel a World Cup skicross and snowboardcross event that was scheduled for March 4-8.

The U.S Ski and Snowboard Association, the governing body of Olympic skiing and snowboarding, said in a written statement over the weekend, “Squaw Valley has just received more than two feet of snow, however the amount of snow needed to build the World Cup courses is significant, and the resort has chosen to allocate its resources to focus solely on the guest experience.”

While the cancellation is bad news for many businesses around Squaw Valley, mountain visitors who spoke with FOX40 on Monday appreciate the reasoning behind it.

“If Squaw Valley cancelled an event so they can move snow around and serve the guests, then thank you because it’s nice up there,” said one skier who enjoyed the springlike conditions on the upper mountain.
