Following The Flash‘s lead, CBS’ Supergirl is enlisting former Superman and Supergirl.
Dean Cain, who played Clark Kent/Superman on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, and Helen Slater, who starred as Kara/Supergirl in 1984 film Supergirl, have joined the cast of the network’s DC Comics take starring Melissa Benoist, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

As first reported by TV Line, Cain and Slater will guest star in the Warner Bros. Television pilot from Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler and Andrew Kreisberg. Details about their mystery roles are being kept under wraps.
The news follows a similar casting strategy from The Flash — which enlisted John Wesley Shipp for a then-secret role as Barry’s father in The CW reboot. Shipp starred as the speedster in CBS’ 1990 series.
The drama that centers on Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman’s cousin, who was born on the planet Krypton and escaped amid its destruction years ago. After arriving on Earth, Kara was taken in by a foster family, the Danvers, who taught her to be careful with her extraordinary powers (which she shares with her famous cousin, Superman).
Slater and Cain join a growing cast that also includes Brothers & Sisters and Ally McBeal alum Calista Flockhart as DC Comics character Cat Grant, True Blood‘s Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen; Homeland‘s David Harewood as DC Comics character Hank Henshaw; Grey’s Anatomy‘s Chyler Leigh as Alexandra “Alex” Danvers, the confident foster sister of Kara; and recurring player Laura Benanti.
Arrow and Flash‘s Berlanti and his No Ordinary Family cohort Adler (The New Normal) as well as Arrow and Flash EP Kreisberg will pen the script and executive produce the drama via Berlanti Productions’ Warner Bros. Television-based banner. Berlanti Productions’ topper Sarah Schechter also is on board to executive produce.
