Alex Garland, the screenwriter for Danny Boyle‘s cult zombie flick 28 Days Later and executive producer of the sequel 28 Weeks Later, says that serious talks are underway for a possible third movie in the franchise.
Speaking to the IGN, Garland said that progress on a long mooted third film has been made. “We’ve just started talking about it seriously” he explained. “We’ve got an idea. Danny [Boyle] and [producer] Andrew [Macdonald] and I have been having quite serious conversations about it, so it is a possibility. It’s complicated. There’s a whole bunch of reasons why it’s complicated, which are boring, so I won’t go into. But there’s a possibility.”

Garland, who makes his directorial debut with upcoming the sci-fi flick Ex Machina, said he would most likely take on executive producer duties rather than write the script, and he confirmed that, unsurprisingly, the next film will be called 28 Months Later.
“It’s more likely to be 28 Months than 28 Years,” he revealed. “28 Years gives you one more place to go. 28 Decades is probably taking the piss,” he said.
