Adam Lambert will kick off 2015 in a big way. The American Idol season eight runner-up will join Queen in London for an exclusive concert airing live on BBC One.
The intimate show will take place at Central Hall Westminster (capacity: 2,000) near the iconic Big Ben clocktower and serve as a warm-up act to a fireworks display along the Thames at midnight.
“Words can’t describe how excited I am,” said Lambert in a release announcing the concert. “We are going to kick off 2015 in style.”
Queen drummer Roger Taylor promised fans “a great night,” adding, “I never imagined we would be around to usher in the year of 2015. What a thrill!”
The performance will be live-streamed, although it’s still unclear whether fans in the U.S. will be able to access the webcast. BBC Radio One hosts Greg James and Gemma Cairney will serve as hosts. Tickets go on sale Dec. 2.
The news of the concert comes on the heels of the band’s recent appearance on The X Factor, where they performed a soaring version of “Somebody to Love.”
Lambert will return to his Idol roots this season as a judge called up to substitute for Keith Urban, who was mourning the loss of his father-in-law over the summer.
Idol released a sneak peek of the new season, which highlights Harry Connick Jr.‘s audition antics and offers a glance at Lambert on the judging panel.
