SACRAMENTO-
A patient at UC Davis Medical Center being treated after showing symptoms of Ebola is considered “low risk” by health officials. Sacramento County health officials will not say if the patient is from Sacramento.
The patient originally arrived at Mercy General Hospital in East Sac Thursday morning, and was transferred to UC Davis. The medical center was identified as one of five facilities in California equipped to treat a patient showing Ebola symptoms.
Doctors say the patient is in good condition.
UC Davis Medical Center sent a note to hospital staff, stating:
“We assure you that this patient’s presence here poses no risk to you or our patients. The isolation room here is properly equipped and segregated, it is staffed by experts who’ve been highly trained to care for patients exposed to infectious diseases.”
The letter then clarifies important reminders about the spread of Ebola:
- It is not spread through the air.
- It is only contagious to those who come in direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person.
- Infection control procedures in modern American medical centers can safely prevent its spread.
