The future of prehistory has arrived — online, at least. The promotional website for this summer’s Jurassic World, designed as a promotional site for the fictional theme park in the movie, has unveiled details of the Indominus Rex, the newly created monster described as “the most fearsome dinosaur ever to be displayed at Jurassic World.”
The site’s official description of the dino notes that “at first glance, Indominus most closely resembles a T. rex” but goes on to note “distinctive head ornamentation … ultra-tough, bony osteoderms [and] horns … placed above the eye orbit.” It’s also a loud creature; its roar, apparently, “is estimated to reach between 140 and 160db — the same as a 747 taking off and landing,” according to the site.
While the site doesn’t go as far as to show a clear image of the Indominus — on the news page, it’s officially listed as arriving “this summer,” with the tagline “Bigger. Louder. More Teeth” — there is a chance to see a shadowy glimpse of its jaws as well as a silhouette of its full form on the creature’s profile page.
Elsewhere on the site, there’s a chance to visit the Hammond Creation Lab, where “scientists are hard at work … bringing the Jurassic Era into the modern era.” And, of course, playing God with dinosaur DNA to create beasties for Chris Pratt to have to deal with in summer blockbusters.
Directed by Colin Trevorrow, Jurassic World will be released June 12.
