CHATSWORTH, Calif. (KTLA)-

Two people were killed early Sunday after a car crashed through a guardrail and plunged dozens of feet off a 118 Freeway overpass in Southern California. The car overturned in a riverbed below, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The two-door Mercedes Benz was the only car involved in the accident. Two people were inside the car when it landed upside down. CHP says the car fell around 75 feet.

Both of the people died in the crash, and their bodies were not immediately identifiable.

There was also a dog in the car that survived the crash. The dog was taken to an animal shelter, according to CHP.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.
