STOCKTON-
A Stockton family is asking for witnesses to come forward, after a man was shot while driving down the street. Family of 33-year-old Jermaine Finister said he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Family and friends gathered Sunday to hold a candlelight vigil for Finister at the scene of the shooting near Monroe and Jefferson Streets in Stockton. Stockton police said the shooting happened about a block away on Saturday afternoon.
After being struck by gun fire, Finister crashed his car into a fence. Stockton police said he later died at the hospital.
Officers said they have very little suspect information. But witnesses and the victim’s family told FOX40 a burgundy Suburban was seen chasing Finister’s car. That Suburban apparently had white magnets on it, with some sort of advertisement written on those magnets, according to witnesses.
Finister’s family said he was in the neighborhood visiting a friend, and he doesn’t typically come to this part of town. They say the Dollar Store employee has a 4-year-old daughter who never received a Valentine’s Day Card from her father.
His sister, Chrisantes Finister, told FOX40 someone out there has information which can help them find justice.
“Someone has seen this suburban somewhere around. If it has some type of advertisement on it, somebody has seen this. It’s just not a car that popped up out of nowhere. Someone has seen this vehicle before. I just ask that somebody say something. Our family we deserve some justice. We need to know what happened to our brother,” Finister said.
Finister’s family said he was not involved in any gang activities.
