LODI-

A Lodi man has been arrested for the murder of a transgender woman in Southern California 25 years after that killing, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.

Douglas Gutridge, 63, is accused of killing Carla Salazar in her Santa Ana apartment in 1989. Gutridge was 37 and Salazar was 35 at the time.

Cold case detectives filed DNA evidence in 2008 shortly before they were given a sample from Gutridge, according to the DA.

Orange County cold case investigators filed more evidence against Gutridge in July 2014 – enough for the District Attorney to file charges.

Gutridge was arrested Dec. 9 at his home in Lodi.

His family declined to comment to FOX40.

Gutridge was booked into the Orange County Jail and will be in court Jan. 2.
