AUBURN-
Three days after the suspect in Friday’s crime spree was captured inside an Auburn home, the family that lives there is still unable to return.
The front windows are broken and the house is still covered in police tape.
Laura Larson’s parents live there with her uncle. She says there’s blood, stains from tear gas, and feces throughout the house.
“[In] my parents’ bedroom there’s fecal matter. It just smells horrendous it looks horrendous,” said Larson.
Dozens of officers from agencies across the area were in Auburn Friday searching for suspect, Marcelo Marquez, after two local deputies were killed in a day long crime spree spanning 30 miles.
Larson’s parents were out of town at the time, But her uncle was there when Marquez entered.
“Every time we talk about it, my heart starts to flutter because his life was spared but he’s the hero and he’s the reason why he got caught,” said Larson.
Larson says when her uncle realized the man inside his home was the target of a manhunt, he took action.
“He was able to alert authorities that he was in the house, and he drew a map of the interior of the house for the SWAT team,” Larson said.
Larson’s uncle is still shaken and too upset to speak to FOX40 on camera.
The family is grateful he’s alive, after escaping from the man accused of murdering two deputies.
The family is still waiting to find out if local law enforcement will reimburse them for the cost of repairs, which they estimate to be $20,000.
The family has set up an online fundraising website through GoFundMe.
