ELK GROVE-

The City of Elk Grove says the foul odor some residents may smell is because of the lack of rain.

The smell is said to be around Elk Grove Creek between Laguna Springs Drive and Emerald Vista Dive.

According to the city, “organic materials” like grass and leaves have been left in creeks and underground systems during dry spring and summer seasons.

Rain in the spring typically washes that matter away, but there was not nearly enough rain this year to do that. The most recent rain storm, from a few weeks ago, sent the dry matter into the stream.

That’s what city officials say the smell is.
