ABC is using its strong Wednesday lineup of family comedies to launch new Asian-American family laffer “Fresh Off the Boat,” which will premiere on the night in February with a pair of episodes before moving to its regular Tuesday timeslot.
The net, whose “Black-ish” is the top new comedy of the season, announced today that “Fresh Off the Boat” will air regularly at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays, taking over the timeslot that had been occupied this fall by the ineffective “Selfie.” Its competition will include the final episodes of NBC’s “Parks and Recreation.”
The pilot of “Fresh Off the Boat,” which garnered positive buzz at the network’s May upfront presentation, will air Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 8:30 p.m. (the “Goldbergs” timeslot) following “The Middle.” A second episode will air behind “Modern Family” at 9:30 (in the “Black-ish” timeslot).
ABC did not announce what will air behind “Fresh Off the Boat” when it moves to its regular Tuesday-at-8 timeslot on Feb. 10, but repeats of its Wednesday comedies are one possibility.

“Fresh Off the Boat,” inspired by Eddie Huang’s bestselling memoir of the same name, is set in 1995 and tells the story of a family that moves from the Chinatown section of Washington, D.C., to suburban Orlando. Randall Park, Constance Wu, Hudson Yang, Forrest Wheeler and Ian Chen star. Huang provides the voiceover narration.
It was written by Nahnatchka Khan, who also serves as executive producer. Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar are executive producers, and Eddie Huang is producer. The series is produced by 20th Century Fox Television.
