ROSEVILLE-

A young man from Penryn was arrested Friday for allegedly selling mushrooms to a decoy.

According to the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, the 20-year-old decoy was working with the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, approached 19-year-old Noah Phippen and asked him to buy beer for him.

Investigators said Phippen declined because he was also underage, and instead offered the decoy some “California gold cap mushrooms.”

They struck a deal while the decoy was wearing a wire, detectives said.

Deputies caught up with Phippen around the corner, who reportedly denied selling drugs. Detectives say a search of Phippen’s car turned up a “large amount” of psilocybin mushrooms, cocaine, meth, marijuana, drug scales and about $1,500 in cash.

Phippen was booked into jail on drug charges.
