Firefighters made tremendous progress in containing the massive King Fire Tuesday, with containment reaching 35 percent.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, the fire itself grew to 89,574 since it started 10 days earlier.

Increased nighttime humidity and rain in the forecast were said to be working in firefighters’ favor.

As of Tuesday, Sept. 23, 7,388 firefighters were involved in containing and battling the flames. Around 12,000 homes and 9,000 other buildings are threatened, and at least 10 homes were destroyed.
