Launching a comedy in a new time slot is rarely easy, and ABC faces an uphill battle at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays. Shifting Agents of SHIELD from its night-opening spot last season, the network launched two new half-hours in the period last night. Neither grabbed much of an audience.
Starting the night, Selfie averaged a 1.4 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.9 million viewers. Manhattan Love Story, which hasn’t gotten quite the same push as the Emily Kapnek project, pulled a 1.3 rating in the demo and 4.3 million viewers. Yes, both were enough to top Fox’s Utopia in the hour — not to mention Fox comedies New Girl and The Mindy Project later in the evening — but that’s nothing to brag about.
Agents of SHIELD, which saw hefty adjustments last week, was down nearly 20 percent with a 1.7 adults rating — and Forever (1.3 adults) took a spill in its third episode, falling half a point.
NBC’s The Voice, again steady with its comparable episode last week, earned a 4.0 rating with adults under 50 and 13.5 million viewers. Combined with Chicago Fire (2.4 adults), the network easily won the full night in the key demo.
NCIS (2.6 adults) and its latest spinoff, NCIS: LA (2.3 adults), were off a respective three- and two-tenths of a point from last week’s showings on CBS. The most steady of the night, Person of Interest, actually managed a slight improvement from its return for a 1.8 rating in the key demo.
As for Fox, the trio of Utopia (0.8 adults), New Girl (1.2 adults) and The Mindy Project (1.1 adults) were all steady with last week’s showings in the demo — each ranking fourth in its time slot. New Girl stands to gain the most from time-shifting, with a projected 75 percent lift over the next seven days.
