The definitive Bruce Lee biopic is on its way.

Lee’s daughter, Shannon, announced Friday that a feature film about her father is in the works. It marks the first movie on the Enter the Dragon legend’s life with the family’s full involvement in production. Bruce Lee Entertainment will team up with Lawrence Grey and Janet Yang to produce the project.

“There have been projects out there involving my father,” Shannon said in a statement, “but they’ve lacked a complete understanding of his philosophies and artistry. They haven’t captured the essence of his beliefs in martial arts or storytelling.

“The only way to get audiences to understand the depth and uniqueness of my father is to generate our own material and find amazing, like-minded partners to work with.”

Lee died at age 32 in 1973, less than a month before the American release of Dragon, arguably the most iconic martial arts action film made.

“I have long been inspired by Bruce Lee and wanted to partner with Shannon in order to really delve into the depth of the icon in a way that has never before been seen on the screen,” said Grey. “It is really a dream project and the perfect partnership.”

Ben Everard joins Grey, both of Grey Matter Productions, to work on the project.
