BOREAL —

Skiers and snow boarders agree this may have been the best snow storm of the season.

“This is probably the only snow we’re going to see for a while. This winter has been horrible,” said Joseph Allara.

Some wore interesting outfits for the slopes.

“I always wear bright clothes and a lion hat so my friends can find me on the lift, because if you’ve ever gone skiing or snowboarding you know as soon as you’re like oh yeah I’ll meet you on the run… you don’t. You don’t see each other,” Andrew Steinsapir said.

Steinsapir says he had a long drive to get to the slopes, taking him about 7 hours to drive from Berkley.

He says the morning snow stranded him and 100 other cars for more than an hour and a half.

“There were a lot of accidents and they had to take cars off. So they could take the tow trucks up there with cars so we all got pulled off,” said Steinsapir.

As the temperatures rose with the sun, Caltrans was able to keep Interstate 80 open. By late afternoon chains were no longer required, welcome news to many truckers.

“We actually started putting chains on our trucks and we got told by one of the plow truck drivers ‘oh hey, you don’t have to chain up anymore,” said truck driver Nash Riccius.

Meanwhile back on the slopes, many told us this was their first trip up this season.

“If there’s no rain there’s no snow, and I didn’t want to plunk down 500-600 bucks for a season pass and sit at home checking the ski report,” Steinsapir said.

But after this dusting, many say they plan to come up again tomorrow.

“It’s been about three years, four years since we’ve had a good snow. It’s about time,” said Chris Pearson.

The resort says it has about 90 percent of its terrain now open. They believe there will be more storms like this before the season is over.
