LAKE TAHOE-

Steady snowfall Monday afternoon was the frosting on what turned out to be a sweet weekend on the slopes around Lake Tahoe.

“Conditions are amazing,” said Tess Hobbs, marketing manager at Boreal Mountain resort. “We received 22 inches this past weekend.”

The weather system that impacted the region over the weekend was colder than the previous couple of winter storms, allowing for a powdery type of snow that many skiers and snowboarders crave.

Businesses in downtown Truckee enjoyed a boost in boot traffic thanks to the new snow. From Tahoe Dave’s rental shop, to the Mellow Fellow Pub, to El Toro Bravo restaurant, business was strong Monday evening.
“It’s real nice on a Monday to see it kind of going,” said bartender Ryan Eller, referring to the packed house at Mellow Fellow. “I think that’s all related to the snow. Weekends you still get people up here no matter what. But during the week it definitely slows down when we don’t have some snow. So it’s definitely nice to have some storms coming in.”
This latest winter reprise after a strong holiday season has some Sierra businesspeople feeling upbeat about their bottom line. Still, another weekend like the one they just had would be most welcome in a region not quite ready for winter to melt away.

“We all love powder days,” Hobbs declared with a bright smile.
