Roadside Attractions has acquired all domestic rights to Roland Emmerich‘s gay rights drama Stonewall.
The Centropolis Entertainment film will receive a fall 2015 release. Stonewall, starring Jeremy Irvine, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Ron Perlman and Jonny Beauchamp, is a departure for the director of such blockbusters as Independence Day.
The movie tells the story of the riots of June 1969 after police raided the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village. “Roland Emmerich’s Stonewall is an explosive, dramatic story set against one of the monumental events of the 20th century, the Stonewall Riots,” said Roadside Attractions co-president Howard Cohen in a statement Wednesday.
Stonewall is written by John Robin Baitz (Brothers & Sisters) and produced by Emmerich, Michael Fossat, Marc Frydman and Carsten Lorenz. Executive producer credits are shared by Kirstin Winkler, Adam Press and Michael Roban
U.K. sales, finance and postproduction banner Goldcrest Films is handling international sales.
