Want China Times: Congress Wants to Know If Race A Factor in Dropped Case Against Accused Chinese Spy

FBIMembers of Congress are calling for an investigation into the dropped charges against a Chinese American National Weather Service employee falsely charged with spying for China, reports the Want China Times.

Sherry Chen was accused of using a stolen password to gather information for China about our nation’s dams.

The charges were abruptly dropped and at least two former government prosecutors have accused the U.S. of racism and being overzealous in its case.

Rep Judy Chu (D-CA) and Rep Mike Honda (D-CA) are among 20 members of Congress and several Asian American civil rights groups calling for U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch to investigate whether race was a factor in the bungled case.

Chen was suspended from her job with the National Weather Service and although the charges have been dropped, she has not been informed about when she might be allowed to return to work.
