Minnie Driver is headed for CBS.
The About a Boy star has signed on to the network’s Happy Life (formerly known as Joe Time), The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The comedy centers on family man Joe (Wings‘ Steven Weber) who struggles with the fact that everyone around him is pursuing their dreams and enjoying their lives more than he is.

Driver — who fielded multiple drama and comedy offers this pilot season — will play the female lead, Maggie, Joe’s wife, a former doctor who left the grind behind to embark on a new career teaching people “mindful meditation” out of her home studio.
Driver will be credited as a guest star in the pilot and take the Happy Life role in second position to NBC’s bubble series About a Boy, meaning should NBC renew the Jason Katims comedy for a third season, she would remain with that show and CBS would recast. However, should NBC opt to cancel the series and CBS pick up Happy Life to series, Driver would be a series regular.
From Warner Bros. Television, Bill Wrubel (Modern Family ) will write and executive produce the multicamera comedy alongside executive producer/director James Burrows.
Duane Martin, Eric Petersen, Rita Moreno, Alli Kinzel, Noland Ammon and Bill Smitrovich round out the cast.

For Driver, the role brings the actress back into the CBS fold after previously starring in drama pilot Hail Mary for the network a few years ago. The Good Will Hunting Oscar nominee’s credits also include earning an Emmy nom for The Riches. She’s repped by UTA, Untitled Entertainment and Morris Yorn.
